Privacy Policy
CHRISTERA – Faith. Stories. Truth.
Last updated: 1 November 2026
1. Our principle
CHRISTERA is a free, ad-free Christian app that makes Bible stories, news-style articles, daily Bible verses and interactive journeys of discovery accessible.
The privacy of our users matters to us.
CHRISTERA follows a simple principle:
Your faith is personal. Your data should stay that way too.
The app can be used fully without registration, sign-in or any personal information.
We do not create personal user profiles and do not use personal data for advertising.
2. Controller
The party responsible for the processing of data in connection with CHRISTERA is:
CHRISTERA
Operator: Joel Harry Ranjan
Country: Switzerland
Email: honoringchrist21@gmail.com
3. Use without registration
No user account is needed to use CHRISTERA.
In particular, we do not ask for names, email addresses, phone numbers or dates of birth.
The content of the app can be opened without any personal identification.
When your device communicates with our servers, technically necessary information, in particular IP addresses, the times of requests and technical connection data, may be processed.
This processing serves to deliver the content, to keep the service secure and to operate the app reliably.
4. Data stored locally
Some functions of CHRISTERA store information directly on your device.
This includes in particular:
- Points and streaks from «Wisdom of the Day»
- Milestones reached and achievements unlocked
- Your personal progress in the journeys
- Favourites, articles already read and the reactions you chose
- App settings, for example the chosen language and appearance
This information is not sent to CHRISTERA and we cannot see it. The only exception is the random identifier described in sections 5 and 6.
The data can generally be deleted by removing the app. Where the operating system makes backups, the data may remain in those backups.
5. Reactions to articles
CHRISTERA lets you react to articles (thumbs up, heart, praying hands, wow, sad, thumbs down).
When you choose a reaction, the app sends to our server:
- the number of the article,
- the reaction you chose and
- a random identifier. The app creates it once on your device.
The identifier is used only so that one device counts once per article and so that you can change or take back your reaction. It contains no information about you and is not linked to a name, an account, a phone number, an advertising ID or a device identifier assigned by the manufacturer. Because it stays the same on your device, it is a pseudonymous identifier and not completely anonymous.
The data cannot be read through the public app access. The app receives from the server only the totals per article and reaction, never who reacted.
If you remove the app, the identifier on your device is deleted. The reaction that was counted stays as part of the total, but can no longer be linked to any device.
Technically necessary connection data may arise during transmission (section 3).
6. Anonymous usage statistics
To understand which content is read, we count how many devices have opened an article.
For this, when you open an article the app sends the number of the article and the random identifier from section 5. This way one device counts an article only once. Only the totals per article are evaluated and shown: in the app under the article, and for us in the content administration.
Technically, the article number and the identifier are stored together on the server. We do not evaluate these pairs individually, we do not create usage histories of individual devices and we do not follow the behaviour of individual people across different content.
We do not currently collect other usage figures (for example for «Wisdom of the Day» or the journeys). Should that change, we will adapt this policy beforehand.
These statistics serve only to improve our content and to judge its reach.
7. Push notifications
CHRISTERA can offer voluntary push notifications, for example about new Bible stories or daily Bible verses. The app asks at start whether you want to allow notifications.
Push notifications are only sent if you have given the permission.
For delivery we store on our server:
- the push token of your device (a technical address to which notifications are sent),
- the platform (iOS or Android) and
- a counter for the number on the app icon.
For delivery we use Firebase Cloud Messaging from Google and the notification service of Apple (iOS) or Google (Android). Google processes technical data of your device, in particular the push token and the IP address. We do not use Firebase Analytics or any other analytics services from Google.
You can withdraw the permission for push notifications at any time in your device settings.
8. Technical infrastructure and third parties
CHRISTERA uses Supabase to provide and manage app content and to store the figures from sections 5 and 6 and the push tokens from section 7. When you use the app, technically necessary data may be passed to the infrastructure and hosting providers we use.
More about Supabase: https://supabase.com/privacy
Fonts: The app loads some of its fonts when needed from Google Fonts (Google). For technical reasons Google then receives the IP address of your device. The fonts are then stored on the device. More: https://policies.google.com/privacy
External links: If you tap a link to another website or app (for example to a Bible text or a map), you leave CHRISTERA. The respective provider is responsible for the data processing there.
Sharing: When you share content through the share menu, you decide with whom. We receive nothing of it.
We take care that the service providers we use offer suitable technical and organisational measures to protect the data.
9. Processing abroad
Our data is stored with Supabase on servers in Zurich (Switzerland). As Supabase is a company based in the USA, access by the company may also take place from there. For the delivery of push notifications and the loading of fonts, services of Google (USA) are used (sections 7 and 8).
Where personal data is disclosed to countries without an adequate level of data protection, we ensure the legally required safeguards (for example a certification of the provider under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses) or rely on an applicable legal exception.
10. No advertising and no personal tracking
CHRISTERA is free and ad-free.
We do not use advertising networks and no tracking technologies to create personal advertising profiles.
We do not sell personal data.
Using CHRISTERA is not tied to consent to personalised advertising.
11. Retention and deletion
Progress and settings stored locally generally stay on the device until they are deleted by the app, the operating system or the user.
We keep the counts from sections 5 and 6 (with the random identifier) and the totals derived from them for the long-term evaluation of reach.
Where personal technical data is processed, we keep it only as long as is necessary for the purpose or required by law.
We delete push tokens as soon as delivery shows that they are no longer valid, for example after the app has been removed. Technical access logs of the servers are kept by the hosting provider only for a short time according to its settings.
12. Data security
We take appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect the data we process against unauthorised access, loss, misuse and unlawful alteration.
These include in particular suitable access restrictions and encrypted data transmission.
13. Rights of data subjects
Where we process personal data, data subjects have the rights under the applicable data protection law, in Switzerland under the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).
These can include in particular:
- information about the processing of personal data
- correction of inaccurate data
- deletion of personal data where the legal conditions are met
- release or transfer of certain data where provided by law
- objection to certain processing, or withdrawal of consent given
For such requests you can use the contact address in section 2.
Because CHRISTERA works without user accounts, we cannot link the random identifier and the push token to a particular person. Information or deletion is therefore only possible if you can prove the identifier in question to us.
You can also contact the data protection authority, in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
Where the GDPR applies, the processing of personal data is based, depending on the purpose, in particular on Art. 6(1)(a), (b) or (f) GDPR. For processing based on legitimate interests, the secure operation and provision of our app are in the foreground.
14. Changes to this policy
We may adapt this policy, in particular when the functions of CHRISTERA, the technical services used or the legal requirements change.
The current version is published within the app and on our website.
